Enhancing the value of pharmacists through augmented competency standards and targeted professional practice standards
|Chief Investigator:||Bill Kelly|
Emerging areas of contemporary pharmacy practice were identified through appropriate stakeholder consultation. In order to more effectively establish and demonstrate the vital role that pharmacists play, a two-step approach was proposed. The first was to augment the existing Entry Level Competency Standards in areas where basic competencies of pharmacists can be consolidated or be more clearly defined. The concept of continuing professional development will also be incorporated. The second was to develop and implement sustainable standards and resources for pharmacists in targeted service areas, particularly those areas where gaps exist in demonstrable data, or where the contribution of pharmacists are likely to have an immediate impact in the delivery of public health benefits. The output of the project is the new publication entitled Competency Standards for Pharmacists in Australia 2003.
