The purpose of the project is to identify the potential role and value of the professional services that community pharmacy can provide which can be integrated within the healthcare system to improve weight management in the community.
Literature, policy review and mapping of existing programs will be undertaken to investigate the potential role and impact of community pharmacy in providing preventive strategies for weight management. This will include an analysis of community pharmacy weight management programs currently operating in Australia and overseas, to identify opportunities for them to be adopted in and throughout Australia.
This review will be conducted to inform the development of a Pharmacy Weight Management Health Care Model. This Model will build on existing health service and health promotion plans and promote partnership and collaboration across the health care system. Ethical, legal, infrastructure, policy, and safety issues involved in the delivery of these services by community pharmacy will also be considered.
